Archive of Gonzaga correspondence from 1563 to 1630

In 1998, the Centro Internazionale d'Arte e di Cultura di Palazzo Te initiated a research project in preparation for the exhibition La Celeste Galeria (2002). At the State Archives of Mantua a group of young scholars examined and transcribed a vast number of letters concerning the collections of the noble family, from the Duchy of Guglielmo Gonzaga (1563) up to the sack of the city (1630). With the implementation of this portal the Centro Internazionale d'Arte e di Cultura di Palazzo Te intends to open a second phase of research, in order to activate new studies and to make available on line not only documents already published in the series “Fonti, Repertori e Studi per la storia di Mantova” (Silvana Editoriale) but also new unpublished transcripts currently being made.
